HAWKINS COUNTY REPUBLICAN and DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY ELECTION WILL BE HELD ON TUESDAY, MAY 4, 2010.  The purpose of this election is to allow members of each political party to elect the winning nominee or nominees to appear on the August 5, 2010, General Election ballot.  The following offices will be on the May 4, 2010 Primary ballot:


  • County Mayor
  • County Commissioner- All Districts
  • County Trustee
  • Sheriff
  • Clerk of Courts
  • County Clerk
  • Register of Deeds
  • Superintendent of Roads
  • Constables- All Districts




Qualifying deadline to file nominating petitions for the May 4th Primary and Independent candidates for the above  county offices listed on the May 4th Primary Election to be filled in the August General Election are due no later than 12:00 Noon, February 18, 2010.  Candidates may obtain nominating petitions in person at the Hawkins County Election Commission office.  Terms for county offices are four (4) years.  Qualifying nominating petitions require twenty-five (25) or more signatures of registered voters eligible to vote to fill the office being sought.

Qualifications required by state law for each office may be picked up at the election commission office and they are also listed on the county web site.



Last day for a candidate to withdraw from the election is 12:00 Noon, Thursday, February 25, 2010 



Last day to register in person to vote in the May Primary Election is Monday, April 5, 2010.  Mail registration forms postmarked April 5, 2010, will be accepted, all other registration forms will be held and processed after the election.



First day the county election commission office may receive requests for absentee ballots to be voted by mail by persons in the armed forces and overseas voters is January 1, 2010, which applies for May, August and November 2010 Elections.  February 3rd is the first day the county election commission office may receive requests to vote absentee by mail for the May Primary by persons other than armed forces and overseas voters.  April 27th is the last day for the county election commission office to receive a written request for an absentee ballot application for the May 4th Primary Election. 

EARLY VOTING by Personal Appearance for the May 4th Primary Election will begin in the election office and the Church Hill Satellite office on Wednesday, April 14th through April 29th. Voters registered in any precinct may vote in the election office or the Church Hill Satellite office.  You do not have to state a reason to vote early.

The Hawkins County Election Commission is located on Main Street, Room 101, Rogersville Courthouse, Rogersville, TN 37857.  The Church Hill Satellite office is located in the Masonic Lodge, 111 Hamilton Avenue in Church Hill, TN 37642. Regular office hours at the Election Commission office are 8:00A.M. to 4:00P.M. Monday through Friday.  

Early Voting hours:  The Election Commission office and the Church Hill Satellite office will be open for voting Monday through Friday from 10:00 A.M. to 6:00P.M.  The Election Commission office and the Church Hill Satellite office will be open on the following Saturdays:  April 17th and 24th, from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00P.M.  Both locations will be open on Thursday, April 29th until 8:00P.M.

Election Commission office will be closed on the following days:

  • November 26, 27, 2009 - Thanksgiving Holiday
  • December 9 ( at 12:00), 10, 11, 2009 - Seminar
  • December 24, 25, 31, 2009 - Christmas Holiday (Undecided - Call before Coming By)
  • January 1, 2010 - New Years Day
  • January 18, 2010 - Martin Luther King's Birthday
  • February 15, 2010 - Presidents' Day
  • April 2, 2010 - Good Friday

Once again, I would like to remind you to update your voter registration if you have moved to another address within the county or outside the county.  Please write or call the election office, 272-8061.  If you fail to correct your address before Early Voting begins or Election Day, then you will have to fill out a Fail Safe Voting Affidavit form before voting.
